Why is it that most people have no problem setting goals, but have a hard time actually completing what they set out to do? What is it that makes us want to make a list of things we think we want to accomplish only to barely remember what the original goal was in the first place?
I’m going to tell you right now I believe it is mindset. Think about this… when you first create your to do list, you were probably pretty excited. You’re energized, enthusiastic and looking forward to the “Power of the Checkmark.” Am I right?
Then you wake up the next morning and the honeymoon is over. Or maybe you work it for a day or two, but something just takes the wind out of your sail and it’s probably something that is dressed in overalls and looks like work and you just don’t feel like romancing that goal anymore.
You hear it all the time. At the beginning of each year almost everyone sets out to loose weight or make money. I say we should all cash in on our passion…but that’s just me!
It’s always the top two goals set in January. Weight loss centers are busy collecting credit cards left and right for your membership and the home based business industry sees its busiest trend of the year.
So with all these wants, needs and desires, there really is nothing new under the sun about creating, setting or even achieving goals. So why do we make them and why don’t more people achieve them? Again… it’s MINDEST.
In the video I share three simple steps to “Goal Winning” and not just “Goal Setting.”
Let’s take this a step further…
Goal Setting and the Power of the Mind
This has to do with making a list. Sounds like work right off the bat. Now I know a list is important, but look at how the mind works. You’re setting yourself up for failure if you just stop at the list and don’t put in any effort completing the goals. Most people make the list and thinks it’s good. But without a game plan the mind will be left to wander around until it finds something else to do.
And that something else is usually a place where you are most comfortable. That could be the couch, procrastination, comfort food, the list goes on. The mind resorts back to the way it was, the easy road less traveled. You need to exercise your mind and give it a work out so it can build up the defenses it needs to stay strong, just like the rest of your body.
The better you treat your mind the better it will serve you.
YOU have all the power and control you need to make your goals a reality. The question then becomes do you have the determination and focus to reach those desires? Do you have the mental toughness required to see it through… even when it’s dressed in overalls and looks like work?
Goal Winning by Thinking Backwards.
What if you worked backwards? What if you had the end in mind? Like I mentioned in the video the key elements to winning your goals are: see it, speak it and achieve it. So let’s look at these in reverse.
Achieve it as if it’s already won. Act as if the end game has arrived. What would that look like? What does that feel like? Be in the moment when your business looks just like you want it to. Would you be in the same house? Maybe have a new car?
Would ALL the bills be paid… even the house? Would you act differently because you’re leading teams of people? Connecting with the RIGHT people because they called you for advice and you’re too busy to actually chase people like you used to.
By achieving your goal before you even started is like actually creating your reality and just stepping into it. Yes it can be that simple…IF you don’t start doubting yourself. As long as you keep the limiting beliefs away you will be winning your goal in no time.
Speak your goals into existence. Speak it out loud, be strong and bold with it. If this seems silly or awkward it just means you need to do it more. Get over the fear factor. Get over the silliness of it. Because when you speak things into existence you actually start telling your brain that it’s reality.
I have a power statement that is set in the calendar on my phone, so I can see it and read it everyday.
“Thank the Lord that I am his servant. I have a great RELATIONSHIP
with my spouse and with my family. I am attracting LEADERS
into my business everyday. Everything I touch turns to gold.
Everything positive nothing negative. I am worth it and deserve
to have it all. Praise God for expanding my borders.”
Visualize your goals as if they are real. Do you have the vision for your goals and I mean with specifics? What does your dream car look like? I actually believe I have a new truck right now. I can see it clearly in my mind; the make, model, size, color, tires, chrome, dashboard even the lights.
I am envisioning driving, and how I feel in my first brand new vehicle. I see myself paying cash for it and having the sales man trying to tell me I should finance. I tell him that’s a limiting belief I don’t need anymore. I can see he’s curious about my confidence and inquires about it. I tell him I’ll have to get back to him as I’ll be busy taking my wife out on a date up to the city… in MY NEW TRUCK!
How’s that for a mindset and posture?
I know there’s a lot more to share about this topic of winning your goals, but now it’s your turn. What tips and strategies can you share with the community? How are you doing on your goals?
